Seals electrical cabinet doors, junction boxes, outdoor lighting and telecom enclosures; gaskets for machine doors, glazing and ventilation
Hardness 60–70 Shore A / Tensile 9 MPa / Elongation 300% / Compression set 25% / Service -40 to 120 °C, rated IP65–IP67
Cool, dry place away from sunlight and ozone sources
Dow EPDM Sealing Gasket is made from ethylene propylene diene rubber, the elastomer with the best weather resistance among general-purpose rubbers. The gasket remains elastic through years of sun and rain exposure without ozone cracking, making it the standard choice for equipment enclosures and electrical cabinets installed outdoors.
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Hardness | 60–70 Shore A |
| Tensile strength | 9 MPa |
| Elongation at break | 300% |
| Compression set (70 °C, 22 hours) | 25% |
| Service temperature | -40 to 120 °C |
EPDM is not resistant to mineral oils, gasoline or hydrocarbon solvents, so do not use it where it will be in direct contact with oil or lubricants. Design the mounting groove so the gasket is compressed 20–30% for optimal sealing. At gasket joints, miter-cut the ends and bond them with cyanoacrylate adhesive to prevent gaps.
For frequently opened cabinet doors, sponge EPDM gaskets provide a lighter closing force while remaining watertight, extending the life of hinges and locks.
