Product description

Shin-Etsu KE Series Silicone Rubber is a range of high-temperature vulcanizing (HTV) solid silicone rubbers pre-compounded with reinforcing fillers, so manufacturers only need to add a curing agent and process. The range offers multiple hardness grades and specialty properties such as oil resistance, flame retardancy and electrical conductivity, meeting diverse requirements for engineered rubber components.

Typical Applications

  • Gaskets, seals, air hoses and coolant hoses in automobiles
  • Rubber keypads and buttons for electronic devices
  • Door gaskets for ovens, rice cookers and heating appliances
  • Heat-resistant cable jackets and insulating sleeves
  • Food-contact parts such as nipples, valves and lid gaskets

Advantages

  1. Remains elastic from -50 °C to 200 °C with low compression set
  2. Good electrical insulation, resistant to ozone, UV and weathering
  3. Pre-compounded for consistent lot-to-lot quality, easy to color
  4. Suitable for compression molding, injection molding, extrusion and calendering

Properties and Recommended Processing

PropertyValue
Hardness30–80 Shore A
Tensile strength7–10 MPa
Elongation at break300–600%
Press cure170 °C for 10 minutes
Post-cure200 °C for 4 hours

Application Notes

Re-mill the compound on a two-roll mill before processing to restore plasticity, then add the peroxide curing agent at the recommended ratio. Avoid contamination from organic rubber, sulfur or amines, as these can inhibit cure. Post-curing removes peroxide decomposition by-products, reducing odor and improving compression set.

Thoroughly clean mills and molds when switching from organic rubber to silicone to avoid tacky surfaces and incomplete cure.
