Binder for heat-resistant coatings on exhausts, ovens and cookers; insulating varnish for coils, mica sheet and composites
Solids 50% / Viscosity 50–200 mPa·s / Cure 1 h at 200 °C / Continuous heat resistance 250 °C / Film hardness 2H–4H
Sealed containers in a cool, ventilated area, away from flames
Shin-Etsu KR Series Silicone Resin is a range of cross-linking silicone resins used as the primary film former or as a modifier for heat-resistant paints and insulating varnishes. Once cured, the resin forms a hard film with a heat-stable Si-O backbone that retains adhesion and electrical insulation at temperatures where conventional organic resins would decompose.
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Solids content | 50% |
| Viscosity (25 °C) | 50–200 mPa·s |
| Cure conditions | 200 °C for 1 hour |
| Film hardness | 2H–4H (pencil) |
| Film dielectric strength | approx. 50 kV/mm |
Thin with xylene or toluene to a viscosity suited to spraying, dipping or brushing. Metal surfaces should be sandblasted or thoroughly degreased. Flash off the solvent at a low temperature before ramping up to the cure temperature to avoid pinholes. Apply in a well-ventilated area and wear respiratory protection.
A dry film thickness of 20–30 µm per coat is optimal; overly thick films are prone to cracking under thermal cycling.
